Babysitter/ Sitter: Someone who temporarily/ sporadically cares for children on behalf of the children’s parents or guardians. At SoHo Sitters, all sitters are fully screened and follow a vigorous handbook, including educational development, tidiness, timeliness, positive reinforcement, active engagement, and so much more!

Pet Sitter:  Someone qualified and loving who cares for a pet(s), typically in the pet owner’s home.

Newborn Care Specialist:  A newborn care specialist is called upon to help new parents care for their newborns. A newborn care specialist has extensive training and experience in newborn care, as well as infant CPR/first aid certification.

Tutor:  A personal teacher, a teaching assistant, or someone who helps a student catch up in an academic subject.

Nanny Share: A nanny share, or “share care,” is pretty much what it sounds like instead of working for just one family, a nanny cares for the child or children of two or more families at the same time. This will help you and the other family split child care costs in half, entirely. Save big!

Take Home Pay:  The pay received by an employee after the deduction of taxes and other obligations.

Nanny Taxes: The “nanny tax” is comprised of a combination of taxes you withhold from your employee and the taxes you pay as the employer. Typically, you’ll withhold Social Security and Medicare (collectively known as FICA) and federal and state income taxes from your employee each pay period. This is an agreement between you and your nanny and SoHo Sitters does not engage in any of this. SoHo Sitters mission is to help match you with fully screened and qualified care.
