Katie K. is originally from Pennsylvania and currently attends the University of Tampa, where she is studying nursing and minoring in Spanish. She has a strong passion for children, which is why she wants to work in pediatrics or neonatal intensive care (NICU), upon graduation. Growing up, Katie assisted with her younger cousins and helped with neighborhood babysitting needs. Her responsibilities included taking children to and from school, after-school activities, preparing and serving meals, helping with homework and engaging them in safe activities. After starting college, Katie began working at a daycare, where she worked with infants and toddlers. She helped with sensory play, educational development and so much more. Working in the daycare inspired Katie to transition into nursing school. She has truly loved her clinical rotations in the pediatric unit and can’t wait to pursue her career in helping children. Katie especially loves being a positive role model for each and every child.
Newborn & Infancy Experience:
The youngest Katie K. has worked with at the daycare was 2 months old and at the hospital, just hours old. She is most comfortable with ages 2 months and up. When working at a daycare, Katie worked with all classrooms, including the infant room. Her experience includes changing diapers, burping infants, giving bottles, changing outfits, putting the newborns to sleep, soothing them, feeding the older infants breakfast and lunch, sensory play and more. At the daycare, Katie would care for four infants at once. She really enjoyed her time in the infant’s room and she is able to balance the older and younger infants, simultaneously. Katie also has strong experience working with newborns in the hospital setting.. She is very knowledgeable in all types of needs, including administering medicine, if instructed to do so.
Katie K. enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys being outdoors, going kayaking, and going for walks. She is a very active person as well and loves to play basketball.
